Pensacola Marketing Firm Produces Scream Out Loud Video

Embark was excited to be asked to produce a music video for the band Scream Out Loud to coincide with the August release of the band’s new self-titled album. Embark’s relationship with the band, however, did not begin with the music video but actually began several years earlier through a long-term personal friendship between Shane Mapoles of Embark and Hunter Moore, lead guitarist for the band.

Mapoles began working with the group by consulting on some of the business aspects of the music business, such as how to transition from one record label to another. From there, his role expanded beyond consulting into creative design work. Among the items Mapoles designed were T-shirts, buttons and posters. A good working relationship with all members of the band developed and trust was firmly established. When Scream Out Loud had a recording contract for a new album with Luxor Records and the opportunity for the development of a music video based on one of the tracks “The Things I Do for Love,” the band’s choice for the production was Shane Mapoles of Embark.

The music video production had several phases:

  • Phase 1 – Ideas, concepts and the general vision of the video were established with the band members over many brainstorming and planning sessions
  • Phase 2 – Contractual negotiations with Luxor Records and agreement about expected deliverables and stipulations. Included in this phase were meetings with the president of Luxor to establish the budget, timeline for the video, and strategy for release of the record and video.
  • Phase 3 -  Finalizing the script, the location, the dates for production, selecting production team members and then the actual video shoot itself.
  • Phase 4 – Editing and delivery of final video to coincide with the release of the album

In Phase 3 of the project, an important decision was made for the location – the 100+ year old Imogene Theatre owned by the Santa Rosa Historical Society. Mapoles was able to negotiate a half-day rental  — he knew that precise planning and timing were vital for such a short period of time. The manager of the theatre was a pleasure to work with and had the theatre itself in beautiful condition.  The shoot in the theatre was completed in less than the half-day budgeted, leaving production time remaining for some additional scenes at a second location. This was more than promised in the contract.  The second shoot was of Joseph Kirkland, the lead singer, in the woods holding a torch. It was shot at night to capture the idea of him looking for someone, mirroring the illustrations in the album artwork.

Mapoles added, “We took the imagery from the printed album artwork and were able to transfer that representation into the digital format of the video.”

Mapoles said he is pleased with the final product Embark delivered, and added that he is especially proud of how the actual shoots were completed on time and without unexpected delays. He complimented the entire production team and credited the smooth shoot with careful planning and meticulous preparation.

In fact, as the project was being completed, band member Hunter Moore said, “Shane and his team handled this entire project in such a professional way. Their planning was efficient, the production was smooth, and delivery of the final product was on time and on budget.”
