Every year the Association of Fundraising Professionals – West Florida Chapter honors people and organizations who give of themselves for the betterment of the Pensacola community. Ballpoint Communications Group and its creative arm, Embark Agency, were asked to produce videos for each of the following recipients to use at the 2016 National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on November 17:

  • Tip McAlpin – Philanthropist of the Year
  • Seville Rotary – Philanthropic Service Organization of the Year
  • Epps Christian Center – Philanthropic Faith-Based Organization
  • Cat Country 98.7 – Philanthropic Business of the Year
  • Washington High School Student Government Association – Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy
  • Sue Straughn – Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year
  • Laverne Baker – Outstanding Fundraising Professional

The Situation:  Aaron Ball,  Embark’s co-founder and Ballpoint’s CEO, agreed to undertake the video production project on a pro bono basis to honor the recipients and help recognize the wonderful work they do in the Pensacola community.

Seven videos were produced, one for each of the recipients, with two to three people speaking on each video about the service provided by the recipients. Because there was a short lead time, it was decided that all the videos would be shot in the Ballpoint studio in one and a half days.

The scheduling of 21 people into the short production window was accomplished due to the hard work of Shelly Nightengale of the American Cancer Society Florida Division, Natalie Chism of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida, and Laverne Baker of Laverne Baker & Associates.

The Video Production: Leading the project at Embark and Ballpoint were Ann Kelly as coordinator and interviewer and Daniel Rohm as videographer and video editor. Approximately 12 hours of interviews were conducted and taped, followed by 32 hours of editing.

After the Awards Luncheon, Rohm spent additional time uploading each of the videos to YouTube, and Ball sent congratulatory emails to the recipients and the presenters with the YouTube links attached.

The Conclusion: The Pensacola community has encouraged and promoted Ballpoint Communications Group over the last four years as well as the recent launch of Embark Agency. Producing these videos has provided us with a way to give back to those who give so much to  others. We are honored to have been asked to participate in the 2016 National Philanthropy Day and hope to participate for many years to come.
